Get to know your garden before you begin

A good vegetable garden starts with observation. Map the light, space and your own routine.

Look at different times

Sketch your space and mark where buildings and trees cast shade. Observe morning, afternoon and evening. Repeat in other seasons: September alone cannot tell the whole story.

Make it practical

Where will you get water? Can you reach every plant without standing on the beds? Draw paths and working space first, then allocate the remaining area.

Start small

Choose one bed or a few pots and keep a simple log. Your own observations will help you plan the next step.
