Group plants by actual need
A single timer setting will not suit every pot. On a British patio, a sheltered container and one exposed to wind may dry differently. Group compatible plants and inspect their growing medium before deciding that an irrigation kit will solve the watering routine.
Test delivery before adding more lines
Start with a small group of pots. Check that water reaches every intended outlet and that the final pot is not receiving much less than the first. Follow the kit’s instructions for pressure, filtration and permissible connections; mains-water protection is not an optional detail.
Watch what happens inside the pot
A working dripper does not prove the root zone is evenly moist. Examine the growing medium and drainage after a cycle. If water escapes immediately or the pot stays saturated, adjust the setup and watering pattern. Avoid masking a blocked drainage hole with longer irrigation.
Trial the routine while you are home
Run the system through changing weather before relying on it during an absence. Arrange someone to check plants and equipment. Keep a note of adjustments so the caretaker understands the current setting, and review the system whenever you add pots or change their positions.
